COLO SPRGS, CO (Sept. 11, 2023) – Team USA athletes earned a grand total of 10 medals and set three new world records at the 2023 International Shooting Sports Federation World Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan, Aug. 14- Sept. 1.

The USA Shooting athletes medaled in the following:

  • Gold in Men’s Skeet Team: Vincent Hancock, Christian Elliott, and Dustan Taylor
  • Gold in Mixed Skeet Team and a new world record: Vincent Hancock and Austen Smith:
  • Gold in Women’s Skeet Team and a new world record: Dania Vizzi, Austen Smith, and Samantha Simonton
  • Gold and a new world record in Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions: Sagen Maddalena, Sarah Beard, and Mary Tucker
  • Gold in Men’s Trap Team: Will Hinton, Derrick Mein, and Derek Haldeman
  • Dania Vizzi: Silver in Women’s Skeet
  • Silver in Mixed Trap Team: Rachel Tozier and Derrick Mein
  • Sagen Maddalena: Bronze in Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions
  • Tim Sherry: Bronze in both 300m Standard Rifle Open and Men’s 300m Prone Rifle

 

In addition to the impressive medal count, U.S. athletes set three new world records. The Mixed Skeet Team set a new record after Hancock shot a 74 in the qualification round combined with Smith’s 75 to equal a total of 149/150. The duo then shot the gold medal match where they triumphed over the Ukrainian Team.

Smith also helped set a second world record with teammates Vizzi and Simonton in the Women’s Skeet Team event. Vizzi shot a 122/125, Smith had a 122/125, and Simonton shot a 121/125 for a combined score of 365/375, besting the Italian team who finished second with 360/375.

The Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team World Champion title was earned by Sagen Maddalena, Mary Tucker, and Sarah Beard. Their three qualification scores not only earned them gold, but also set a new team world record of 1774 and 102x. Their individual scores are as follows; Maddalena, 594 and 42x; Tucker, 592 and 32x; Beard, 588 and 28x.

The Shooting Paralympic Sports World Championships takes place next in Lima, Peru, Sept. 19-29.

After the Paralympic World Championships, the team is headed to the 2023 Pan American and Para Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
